Fishing on the lower stretches of Little Manistee River is winding down. The MDNR has completed their egg taking for the Spring. The weather is the big news here. Winter has been back the past week or so with cold temps and blowing snow. More snow is predicted for this evening. This can't last forever and we are all anxious for Spring to rebound. The brown fishing was just starting to get going before this cold weather slowed things down. The early report on browns looks promising with decent numbers of fish being taken. The best bet right now is in and around the harbor. The go to lure for Browns in Manistee is the floating Rapala F11 or F13. The front hook rarely hooks a fish when trolling but seems to get caught in the net on just about every fish. Try removing the forward hook to avoid a lot of wasted time untangling it from your net. It you want to do some additional tweaking consider upgrading the two remaining hooks. Be careful though not to go too heavy as heavy hooks rob the bait of its action.
