Fishing has picked up drastically with limit catches of 2 year old Kings in 100-400 feet of water.  Fish are scattered with the water temp being stable and are being caught from 10-100 feet on down.  If you want to get out and enjoy the best of spring Kings call one of our experienced captains soon.

Fishing this past week was much improved with decent catches of Browns, Lake Trout and a few Spring Kings mixed in.  The action has been in 10-35 feet of water and the bite has switches to mostly spoons.  Now is the time to plan that summer fishing trip before all of the best dates are gone.

Fishing continues to be slow with a few Browns and a few Kings being taken near the harbor and on the shoreline.  Water temps are still too cold and should improve with the steady weather.  Prime time spring Kings are only a couple of weeks away so check in with one of our captains for available dates during the spring rush.

Fishing has been slow for Browns with light wind and clear water.  Water temps on the beach have been running 43 to 47 degrees with temps on the shelf between 37 and 39.  Fishing should pick up soon on the lake with warmer temps and the arrival of spring Kings.  There have been a few Steelhead taken on the river although this run is ending as the lake fishing picks up.

Fishing on the lower stretches of Little Manistee River is winding down.  The MDNR has completed their egg taking for the Spring.  The weather is the big news here.  Winter has been back the past week or so with cold temps and blowing snow.  More snow is predicted for this evening.  This can't last forever and we are all anxious for Spring to rebound.  The brown fishing was just starting to get going before this cold weather slowed things down.  The early report on browns looks promising with decent numbers of fish being taken.   The best bet right now is in and around the harbor. The go to lure for Browns in Manistee is the floating Rapala F11 or F13.  The front hook rarely hooks a fish when trolling but seems to get caught in the net on just about every fish.  Try removing the forward hook to avoid a lot of wasted time untangling it from your net.  It you want to do some additional tweaking consider upgrading the two remaining hooks.  Be careful though not to go too heavy as heavy hooks rob the bait of its action.

The Manistee River is raging right now and it looks like coffee with cream in it, needless to say the fishing is tough. But like I said in the last report the high water does draw fish up river to the gravel in preparation to spawn. When this water starts to drop and clear the fishing will be great. The best fishing will be near gravel all through April. For the next week, I would recommend trolling browns just of the beach at Manistee it has been good most days.

Manistee River fishing in the first half of March has been spotty, a  good day followed by a slow one. Steelhead move into the river slowly all winter but the increase of fishing pressure in March can slow the catching down. Now here is the good news the water has been running high for a couple of days with the spring run off, this is acting like a fish magnet pulling steelhead out of the lake and the river fishing will be very good soon as this water stabilizes.
Please call one of our River Guides if you would like information on booking a river trip.
