Tuesday August 28, 2007 PDF
Fishing continues to be excellent with many limit catches reported throughout the area.  Depending on the day fish have been from 55-350 feet with the shallow water providing a great morning and evening bite and the deeper water producing during the day.  Very few fsih are in the river and the should continue to be very good for some time to come.   There is still time to book that charter with our experienced fleet.

Fishing continues to be outstanding with limit catches coming from 20-300 feet of water.  The recent North winds have cooled the water and moved some fish into the harbor while the shelf and beyond is still holding a great number of fish.  Fishing for adult salmon should remain excellent through early September.

Fishing continues to be red hot with some of the best salmon action the port has seen.  Many boats are coming in with limits on a daily basis and the fishing should hold through early September.  There are still some open dates so call one of our experienced captains now!

Fishing has been red hot this past week with only a big storm to slow things down this morning.  Fish are coming right on the bank in the morning and evening and plugs have been working the best.  Start in 65-120 feet and work out past 300 for some mid day action.

Fishing remains very good in Manistee.  We were 11 for 16 this morning with 10 Kings and a Coho.  Plugs have been working well for the early bite on riggers 50, 60 and 70 down. We fished pretty much straight out this morning and had a good first bite in 80 - 110 fow.  Later in the morning the center rigger 75 down with a big white hootch and a KRW Aquagold fly was very good.  Took fish on 7 and 10 colors of leadcore, low divers 100- 150 back and a high diver 225 back on three with a little ring.

Fishing has been very good the last week with fishing coming in 60-200 feet of water.  Many limit catches have been taken and the weather has been very cooperative.  The fish are also getting bigger with several over 20# this last week and a 24# fish caught Monday.  Fishing should be excellent for the rest of the season and there are still some prime dates open with our experienced fleet.

Ride Along with Tribal Fishermen PDF

Representatives from the Manistee Area Charterboats and the Manistee County Sport Fishing Association were able to observe trap nets being lifted on August 2, 2007. We watched three lifts and they were all almost identical.  The ONLY fish in the nets were whitefish and a few lake trout.  There were no salmon, no steelhead, no perch, no burbot etc... They caught about 400 pounds of legal whitefish in each net.  Each net had 4 or 5 lake trout in it.  They kept a total of 4 lake trout that did not look like they would survive.  The rest were released and swam away.  The trap net fishermen are legally required to throw back all whitefish and lake trout under 17 inches - dead or alive.  The only released fish that we saw floating dead in the water were small whitefish in the 10 - 12 inch range.  We video taped the lifts and took several pictures.   I would like to thank S & S Fisheries and the tribal conservation department for allowing us this opportunity.
